A Mother’s Day Gift Turned Into Memories That Will Last Forever
As a Tulsa motherhood photographer, there is something extra meaningful about sessions that are gifted with intention. This sweet mini session was gifted to Morgan by her husband, Daniel, as a Mother’s Day surprise, and honestly, it could not have been more perfect.
If you’re new here, hi friend — I’m a Tulsa family and motherhood photographer who focuses on documenting genuine connection over perfectly posed moments. I want your gallery to feel like you. The laughs, the chaos, the movement, the tiny in-between moments you never want to forget someday.
This session at Woodward Park was exactly that.
A Documentary-Style Motherhood Session Full of Movement
Morgan arrived with her sweet kiddos, Maddie and Bentley, dressed perfectly for a spring evening in May. Morgan wore the prettiest soft pink flowy dress paired with a denim button-up that photographed beautifully against all the greenery around the park. Maddie wore a long floral dress that moved so effortlessly while walking through the gardens, and little Bentley kept things adventurous in a white button-up and jeans.
And when I say adventurous… I mean it in the best way possible.
Bentley was absolutely on the move for most of the session, which honestly is so normal for toddlers and preschool-aged boys. Sessions with little ones are rarely about standing still and smiling at the camera the entire time. They are about connection, curiosity, exploration, and letting kids be kids.
That’s exactly why I love documentary-style family photography.
Instead of forcing moments, we leaned into Bentley’s personality and allowed the session to unfold naturally. Some of my favorite images came from the moments in between — Bentley running back to hug his momma, briefly grabbing hands while walking, or snuggling his sister for just a second before darting off toward the next adventure.
Those are the moments families actually want to remember years from now.
Exploring the Greenhouse at Woodward Park
The greenhouse at Woodward Park completely stole the show during this session.
The lighting inside was soft, glowy, and absolutely dreamy. Truly… take me back.
Watching the kids explore the greenhouse felt magical. Bentley especially loved discovering the large ventilation wheels inside. At one point, he grabbed onto one and started pretending he was steering a giant ship, and it became one of those unexpectedly sweet moments that could never be planned.
Those little details are why I always encourage parents not to stress if their children are “busy” during a session.
Busy kids are still making memories.
Sometimes the most meaningful photographs come from letting your children experience the world naturally while you simply join them in it.
Morgan was incredibly patient and calm throughout the entire session, and that energy shaped everything. Her kiddos clearly felt safe, loved, and free to explore, which allowed me to capture authentic moments instead of forced smiles.
Why Motherhood Sessions Matter
Motherhood sessions are about so much more than getting everyone to look at the camera.
They preserve the way your little boy reaches for your hand while exploring somewhere new. The way your daughter quietly walks beside you. The way your children light up when they feel seen, safe, and loved.
These seasons pass so quickly, especially when your babies are little.
One day, Bentley will outgrow pretending to drive ships in greenhouses.
One day, Maddie’s floral dresses will be traded for something else.
And one day, Morgan will look back on these images and remember exactly what this season felt like.
That’s why I believe so deeply in documenting motherhood honestly.
Not perfectly.
Not stiffly.
Just truthfully.
Planning a Motherhood Session in Tulsa
If you’ve been thinking about booking a motherhood or family session, let this be your sign to do it. Your kids do not need to behave perfectly. Your toddler does not need to sit still. Real life and real connection are more than enough.
And if you’re looking for a location with beautiful variety, soft natural light, and space for your kiddos to explore, Woodward Park is always such a beautiful choice for Tulsa motherhood photography sessions.
Morgan and her sweet kiddos made this session so special, and I’m incredibly honored that Daniel trusted me to document these memories for their family.
